WebQuest - A Lesson Before Dying

After reviewing the web quest history page, I went about conducting my search for web quests via google. It seemed to make sense to me to look for web quests related to texts that I might consider teaching next year and with that in mind, I googled web quests for the novel A LESSON BEFORE DYING by Ernest Gaines and came across a great web quest. In short, the task for web quest follows: Students will imagine that they have been appointed to a youth task force reporting to President Bush. In groups, they will come up with a five-step action plan to alleviate racial inequality in the United States and determine a way to assess the success of your plan. As they work in their groups, they will consider such questions as: What different types of inequities exist in our country and how could you, realistically, plan to ameliorate this situation? In the end, students will present their action plans to the class. The web quest task directly relates to the novel and engages students in independent work related to what they are studying. The web quest is also well organized and details what students need to do with step-by-step instructions.
